Fanboys Rushed to DVD in May

Well no sooner does Fanboys hit (a few) theatres here in Canada than we get an official release date for the long overdue Star Wars-themed comedy on DVD. You may remember the movie getting a limited release back in February followed by a few subsequent expansions, but it never really got any sort of serious marketing push from The Weinstein Company. Although the reviews haven’t been great (32% on Rotten Tomatoes), it still boggles my mind that they didn’t give this a wide release, especially in the slow winter months. It could have easily done better than something like Miss March, for example. As it stands right now, Fanboys has grossed a whopping $753,164 worldwide.

At any rate, I suppose we’ll all get to see it soon enough. DVD Town reports that Fanboys will arrive in stores next month — May 19th to be exact. Extras will include the following:

  • Deleted Scenes
  • Commentary With The Cast And Crew
  • Disturbances In The Force: A Series Of Webisodes
  • The Truth About Fanboys
  • The Star Wars Parallel
  • 4 Fanboys & 1 Fangirl
  • The Choreograph (?)

Is this something you plan on picking up?

Boy this movie just came and went here in New York and we love indies here. The Weinsteins didn’t really do much to push the movie and I don’t know anyone of my film friends who saw it. But I will rent it when it comes out.

  • Free Enterprise is universally hated by most critics as well, and that’s my favorite comedy movie at the moment. I never listen to critics. Can’t wait to check this one out on DVD.

  • The Weinstein Company has no cash and is quickly becoming the place were filmmakers go to die.

I actually remember Jay being on the TMB podcast talking about this movie. That was sometime in 2007 im pretty sure. It seems like FJ is wanting to give love to this film because everytime there is news about this movie it’s posted.

I honestly don’t even care about this movie anymore. I don’t know how many recuts its gone through, but nothing about this movie seems very good.
