Saw Plays A New Kind Of Game

While movie-to-video game adaptations have a nasty reputation, the reverse is just as bad yet rarely spoken of. Video games typically have a longer gestation period, which in movie tie-ins are usually curtailed, particularly with the kind of strict deadlines that a movie’s premiere demands. So with few exceptions video game based on movies tend to be rushed and sloppy. In completely unrelated news, a video game is being released based on the popular horror series, Saw.
While I profess to being not all that interested in the Saw franchise, I have somehow watched every movie released in the series so far. My reasoning is that I’m usually looking for something inconsequential to waste some time, but every year I forget that while Saw isn’t very deep, it sure is complicated. Every installment depends on an encyclopedic knowledge of forgettable plots and characters from previous movies. For that reason alone the success of this series is a mystery to me. That aside, I’m somewhat interested in this game. As much as I enjoy a bit of monster mayhem, I’m with Sartre in that Hell is other people, and judging from the promotional spot below this may deliver. All of which begs the question, would you like to play a game?
