The thing that was great about the A-Team was that the casting was utterly perfect in it's own kooky kind of way. I mean everyone seemed to fit their role like a glove and the A-Team is also one of the few examples where recasting a main character worked because no one remembers the first actor to play Face, only Dirk Benedict.
If you're going to stick with the idea of the A-Team as being a fugitive band of Special Forces soldiers, then the only war that would work would be the first Gulf War. What movie about the Gulf War had four soldiers engaged in thievery? Three Kings. The four actors would fit the four A-Team characters perfectly. Now it wouldn't be the same Three Kings characters, it'd be a totally different story but they seem to still fit. You'd have Clooney as Hannibal, Wahlberg as Face, Ice Cube as B.A. and Spike Jonze as Murdock. It'd never happen of course, but in a strange way it makes the most sense to me.
