There’s no doubt that the funniest show currently on television, aside from Judge Mathis, is the Will Ferrell/Adam Mckay-produced HBO series Eastbound and Down. Danny McBride’s career is currently experiencing a rapid incline (likely heading straight towards Backlashville, population Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Judd Apatow, Will Ferrell…) and Jody Hill’s unique brand of anti-hero comedy is firmly planting its roots in popular film and television (Observe and Report this weekend!). Soon all of our heroes will be fucking over their family and doing cocaine and that’s cool with me. There’s no doubt that the quality of this show is only as good as the people involved in it; most notably David Gordon Green and cinematographer Tim Orr. Also, thank god I’ve now got Stevie Janowski (Steve Little) in my life.
So if you’re remotely as enthusiastic about this show as most people seem to be, you’ll be happy to hear that Kenny Powers will be coming back for a second season. HBO has announced that they’ll start production on six new episodes this year for release in 2010, the year Kenny Powers makes contact… again. I really like the fact that they’re keeping the run of this series so limited. There are way too many shows that overstay their welcome and suffer severely for it. It’s a good call on the part of Jody Hill, Ben Best and Danny McBride, who’ve specifically said they want to put a two season cap on this thing. So there you have it. The wait until 2010 begins. Luckily, we’re sure to get a sweet, overpriced HBO DVD set in the meantime.
Update: Here are the details on the DVD release for Eastbound & Down Season 1.
