First Reviews of J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek from Secret Screening in Austin

Well folks, the new Star Trek movie has been seen, and the praise across the internet this morning is almost universal. Paramount pulled a sneaky little stunt down in Austin, Texas last night, where they were supposedly holding a screening of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan at the Alamo Drafthouse. They were promising to show off some footage from the new film, but as it turns out, the whole thing was actually a top secret screening of the new film in its entirety!

All of the people who were lucky enough to see it have been given the go ahead to post their thoughts across the web, and they seem very positive indeed. I’ve been avoiding reading the full reviews, but in skimming through them I don’t see many major complaints. Only one more month to go! You can bet we’ll be having a special live episode of the Film Junk Podcast with Reed Farrington when the movie finally hits theatres. In the meantime, the first batch of reviews are linked below. Feel free to share any others you find out there.

Empire have given it a pretty positive review as well.

  • Gee, I hope nobody gets fired…

  • Stinkfinger

    That’s a cool experience, although I don’t understand Ed’s comment. What am I missing?

  • Cheeky reference to the fella fired from FOX for writing a review of “Wolverine” before it had been officially released.

  • It’s interesting that in these days, it’s still possible to keep this sort of surprise a secret.

  • The world is neither as big nor as small as one might think.

  • This is going to be such a special experience. Hopefully the movie will be an experience, and not just a line of pictures flashing before my eyes, seemingly careless wether I’m watching or not.

  • Don’t you mean, “This is going to be such a special illegal download experience.”

  • ssssssssssssssssnap!
