The Foot Fist Way Prequel and Eastbound & Down Season 2?

With the success of the HBO series Eastbound & Down and the early reports from the Seth Rogen flick Observe & Report, director Jody Hill and actor/co-writer Ben Best are well on their way to becoming one of the hottest duos in Hollywood. Together with rising star Danny McBride, they seem to be pretty much everywhere right now, and of course, inquiring minds want to know what’s next on their agenda.
Devin from CHUD managed to score a couple of hot tips from the press junket for Observe & Report, including one about a possible prequel to their cult hit The Foot Fist Way. It seems that Jody Hill has given some thought to a spin-off film focusing not on Danny McBride’s character, but rather former kung-fu legend Chuck “The Truck” Wallace (played by Ben Best in the film). He describes it as such:
“I’ve thought about doing a Chuck the Truck prequel… Sort of like Boogie Nights where it spans the 70s and 80s, back when Chuck Norris was [big] and they were first televising martial arts. Do it like a Behind the Music thing where he’s doing blow, where he’s a young boy who rises to fame in tournaments.”
Clearly it’s just an idea right now, but I think it could be a pretty awesome one. On a related note, the 6th and final episode of the first season of Eastbound & Down aired last Sunday, leaving a lot of people wondering what will become of Kenny Powers. It turns out they are still mulling over a second season.
“We definitely don’t want to go for syndication or anything like that, and we know the ending we want to go for. But it could end right here, so we’re debating it. Do we keep it as one season that we’re proud of or do we go for one more?”
You’ve gotta respect the fact that they’re not going to beat a dead horse. The 6 episodes of Eastbound & Down are pretty special, and if they did another 6 episode season I think that would be just about right. Keep it short and sweet, just like Ricky Gervais’s approach to The Office. What do you think, do you want to see more of Eastbound & Down, or should they leave it alone?
