Natasha Richardson 1963-2009

As you may have heard, the Natasha Richardson ski accident that was first reported on Wednesday has indeed turned out to be fatal. I guess all the initial speculation was true after all. What a sad turn of events. She had been transported from Montreal to a hospital in New York City, where family members were brought in to say their goodbyes. The exact cause of death was not specified.

There is some question over why the medics that were first called to the scene did not treat her immediately, however, with head injuries it is not always evident that there is a problem. Either way it is a shocking and devastating loss for her family and friends, including her husband Liam Neeson and their two sons. Were you a Natasha Richardson fan? Which of her performances will you remember most?

I was a big Natasha Richardson fan, and one of the movies that I’ll always remember her in was, “The Parent Trap”. I was 13 when that movie came out, and her performance in it just wowed me. In fact, I had just got done watching that movie when I read about the news of her untimely death online, and I was in such a state of shock that I had to double-check it to make sure that it was the right person. And sad to say, it was. She will truely be missed, and to her family I express my condolonces, especially to her kids, because you can never get over the loss of a mother–I know this from experience. God bless you all!

No I was not a fan, I had to look up her bio on Wikipedia just to see if I’d seen her in anything. Parent Trap & Maid In Manhattan. I was born with fluid on my brain and it just scares me how something that may not have been that big of a deal to her ended up so tragic. So sad.

Its sad to hear that someone died, I never saw any of her movies and hadn’t so much as heard her name until the accident, but it’s sad nonetheless.

  • Parent Trap was my favourite movie growing up. When it came out on VHS, I watched it every single day for months on end. I’m pretty sure I drove my parents crazy with it. I still have that VHS, one of the only movies I’ve kept in the format and not yet upgraded to DVD. She was also fun in Blow Dry, which wasn’t a great movie, but had a good cast.

I got a really sick feeling in my stomach when I heard about the accident and then her death, same feeling when I heard about Heath Ledger. My brother skis on those same hills all the time, and Natasha was the same age that my mother was when she died (though of different causes). Scary and very upsetting. I can only imagine what Liam and their children are going through right now.

I haven’t seen most of her movies and will probably (unfortunately?) always associate her with the awful-yet-amusing “The Parent Trap”. Still, it’s sad for poor Liam Neeson.
