Captain Kirk is Green Lantern?

Word on the street is that Warner Brothers are finally getting serious about this Green Lantern movie, and they have recently set up production offices in order to prepare for a September shoot. As previously speculated, it appears that Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) will indeed directing be the film, and now they’re hot on the trail of a lead actor.

We’ve heard plenty of rumours about who they might be considering to play Hal Jordan, including everyone from Ryan Gosling to Anton Yelchin. Even Jon Hamm of Mad Men fame was reportedly in the running, but the WB seems dead set on casting someone who is under 30. Their top choice? According to IESB, the studio wants Chris Pine (aka Star Trek’s younger, more metrosexual Captain Kirk). Latino Review also has a source confirming that an offer has officially gone out to Pine, although he has not yet accepted.

Well let me be the first to say that I just don’t get it. What’s with all the Chris Pine love? I mean, no one even knows how Star Trek is going to do yet. I get that the ladies like him, but something tells me the fanboys won’t be happy. Besides, from Pine’s point of view, why would he want to tie himself down to a second major franchise so soon? I will admit that he looks the part, but so do a lot of other people. What do you think… is Chris Pine the right man to play the Green Lantern? Are you surprised to see his career taking off like this?

  • This is just the way the business works. Once you get one good part, you wind up getting two or three more before that first film is even released. I guess its a way for studio exec’s to try and ride the wave. Buzz probably has it, that Pine is good in Star Trek, and his pic is probably in the face of most casting directors right now.

  • Why is he metrosexual? He looks like a regular dude to me, with good looks of course.

  • I really liked him in Smokin’ Aces. He was an odd mixture of anarchy and good looks. He was, in fact, the only good thing about that P-O-S movie.

  • Hutton

Hamm would be perfect. The Hal Jordan character, is in many respects, a product of the 50’s, just like Hamm.

I want to know who they are going to cast as Gardner. I hear he’s only planned to have a cameo, but will become a prominant character if the franchise merits a sequel.

  • I’m sick of young, pretty-boy, never been in a fight, talent-less assclowns playing superheroes.

Nobody likes a good looking hero. We want Bruce Willis in die hard. We want Clint Eastwood in the Good, the Bad and The Ugly. We want Rourke in the Wrestler.

Give me tough guy, not a pretty boy.

    PLEASE!

  • Erik Fellows young and fits perfectly

I was not impressed with Pine as Captain Kirk I think everyone else was right on but with the beloved original cast but him. Plus I could not get past his bad acne scares on his lower half of his face.
I agree a newcomer should be given a chance and my vote also goes to Erik Fellows. He has looks, green eyes and a great actor.
