Paramount Sets Transformers 3 Release Date Without Michael Bay’s Consent

Oh no they didn’t! Drunk on the success of Transformers, and encouraged by the buzz for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Paramount announced yesterday that they had already decided on a release date for the yet-to-be-titled Transformers 3. Once again, they are looking at the Independence Day weekend of July 1st, 2011. And really who can blame them for wanting to get the word out as soon as possible? There is only so much real estate available during the summer blockbuster season, and you want to stake your claim early. Unfortunately for them, there’s just one problem: Michael Bay does not approve.

Bay had this to say on the message board for his website, Shoot for the Edit:

“I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 – they asked me on the phone – I said yes to July 4 – but for 2012 – whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots.”

Oh snap! Someone at Paramount is getting fired over this for sure! Seriously though, it just seems to me like Michael Bay wants to be the guy in control. He loves making the studio folks a little uncomfortable, and he loves being the hot shot director who can set his own rules. My guess is he will agree to do it anyway, once they offer him a few more gazillion dollars. What do you think… would you like to see someone else take over the Transformers franchise? Can you see Paramount actually handing over the reins to someone else?

Sometimes I think Bay’s Brain needs a break from movie making that kind of lasts…forever.

However if he keeps on making commercials like the one for Verizon, I could forgive Pearl Harbor…actually not!

  • Couldn’t they just give another person a shot at this? One that might make the Transformers look like Transformers? Cuz that would be cool.

  • i cant’ wait for july for this movie… i want this asap

Someone else than him needs to do Transformers 3.
I just went to see it last night “Transformers 2″
Poor script, poor plot. You really couldn’t see any of the robots in clear detail. You can’t hardly understand what they are saying half of the time.
There is no character development in any of the transformers. And its no fun when the transformers are dying all over like disposable metal. Who would want to buy the toys when all the bad guys are dying. and some good guys. You can say the 80s cartoons were cheezy, but at least it had character development.
What this franchise needs is for a movie to have character development where u can feel for the character…. Otherwise its just a mindless firefight and blowing this up for 2 1/2 hours…

Spielberg should take the producer hat off and take control of this situation. I love what Bay has done but can u imagine what Spielberg would do with Optimus.

They should give it to JJ Abrams, he fluffed my skirt with Star Trek. Give it to him!
