Favreau To Assemble The Avengers?

Rumour has it that part of the reason Marvel is shuffling the release dates for its slate of upcoming superhero epics is to accommodate Iron Man director Jon Favreau, who is not only shooting the sequel to that movie but wants in on The Avengers as well.

I think the beauty of Favreau’s Iron Man, and the reason it resonated with so many, is that it’s just about as straight-forward a superhero movie as you can get. Iron Man is strictly by-the-book, relying on quality of execution without resorting to the pseudo-intellectual meandering of so many other movies of its type. That said, with Marvel working overtime to get these films out before another Watchmen puts the final nail in the superhero coffin, is it wise to place so much of the responsibility for their success on one overworked individual? And if he had to choose, would you rather Favreau sock it to Shell-Head or assemble the Avengers?

  • I’d rather have a director that is less generic and capable of shooting great action scenes for The Avengers. I think Iron Man was good but it had much more to do with Downey and the script–it feels like Favreau only kept those elements from failing.

I think that the directors of the different Avenger character movies should, sort of, have a council, or w/e to decide the way to go with it. That said, I do think that one director should be used, and I think that Leterrier(sp) would be better for it than Jon.

  • I Like SuperHeroes

About combining all of the Avenger Directors into one full length feature film behind the camera. So that way not only will we be getting the Avenger team on screen, but then it would also feel like we had another Avengers Team working behind the camera to all make one superb superhero movie. That would be the only way that they can come up with cool creative ideas and more creative ideas for the film itself. So that way they can have a debate about what goes in the movie and what stays out of the movie. It would be like getting a different point of view from four different movie directors.
