Leonardo DiCaprio Joins Christopher Nolan’s Inception

Some big casting news today from Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie Inception, the original project he is getting ready to shoot in between The Dark Knight and his third Batman film. It looks like the star of the film will be none other than Leonardo DiCaprio, who just wrapped up production on Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island. Ellen Page has also been rumoured to be in talks for the film, although that has yet to be confirmed.

I’m a fan of DiCaprio’s acting, but the guy seems to be attaching himself to a million different projects as of late. It’s like he’s trying to stop anyone else from landing a gig in Hollywood right now! Inception is now probably the most likely candidate for his next movie though; Nolan is hoping to shoot it this summer with an eye on a 2010 release.

Along with this announcement we also have another hint about the premise of Inception: apparently it’s a sci-fi action movie “set within the architecture of the mind”. Oooh… scary. So basically, The Cell? Does the addition of DiCaprio make you more or less excited for this movie? And how long until we start hearing rumours that DiCaprio has also been cast as the next Batman villain?

  • I’m just loving the fact that we have a great director starting a sci-fi project that is original to the screen.

“wrapped up production on Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island”

Leo is a great actor but I’m really not getting why Scorsese is 100% obsessed with him. It gets tired when a director sticks to the same faces for this long.

“And how long until we start hearing rumours that DiCaprio has also been cast as the next Batman villain?”

All thought of the enemies they could pick for the 3rd Batman brings a tear to my eye. If only you-know-who was still alive so we could have had a variant of The Dark Knight Returns on screen. The Dark Knight already set up for Batman quitting because he’s a supposed criminal. Then he comes back and breaks his “one rule.” Just put some age in Bale’s face and grey his hair. It would have rocked.

I wish DiCaprio would get away from the tough guy roles. He’s not convincing at all in them. He’s much better in roles that required boy charm mixed with charisma, suaveness and energy.

DiCaprio in any film makes me more excited to see it, but I don’t feel like he’s attaching himself to everything out there these days. He’s only got three other projects (other than Shutter Island) listed on IMDB and two of those have only been announced and probably won’t start production for ages. The world always needs more Leo!
