Weekly Poll Results: Favourite Late Night Host

In light of the recent personnel changes in late night television, we asked you guys last week who your favourite late night host was. The winner by a long shot was Conan O’Brien, who received almost 50% of the votes! And here I thought Conan’s popularity was waning. Letterman placed second, followed by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, who I really thought would have given Conan a tighter race. I think the biggest surprise for me, however, was the fact that Craig Ferguson beat Jimmy Kimmel. Jimmy Fallon and Carson Daly both tied for last place, but does anyone want to change their vote after seeing Fallon’s first episode? Hmm, yeah, I didn’t think so.

1. Conan O’Brien — 47.1%
2. David Letterman — 14%
3. Jon Stewart — 12.5%
4. Stephen Colbert — 8.2%
5. Craig Ferguson — 5.4%
6. Jimmy Kimmel — 4.7%
7. Jay Leno — 4.3%
8. Jonathan Ross — 3.5%
9. Carson Daly — 0.4%
9. Jimmy Fallon — 0.4%

Oh man, I didn’t watch Fallon’s first episode. Was it bad? Did Conan start for Leno yet? How did he do? To me it is always a tossup between Colbert and Conan.

    For me it is Letterman>Conan>Ferguson.

Ferguson has grown on me fast, his monologues are killer.

  • Never really liked Late Night Tv. The humor goes right past me. Only one that is somewhat decent I find to be Kimmel.

I saw a bit of Fallon’s first episode. It wasn’t a train wreck, but it just wasn’t funny. I’m sure he’ll improve, but I can’t see him being anywhere near as funny and likeable as Cone Zone. It sort of reminded me of an extended episode of Carson Daily…which…is not good. Having The Roots as your band is pretty sweet though.

Is this poll really fair? Jimmy Fallon only had one episode when this was taken. Not really the best indication. That being said, I thought it was better than Carson Daly’s show.

P.S. I love Conan and I’m so glad he won by such a large majority.

Craig Ferguson by a long shot. He’s terrific without any of the fancy bullshit bestowed on the other late shows. No band, tiny studio, low-profile guests, no veteran writers or even decent furniture – and he’s still a million times funnier and more earnest than all the aforementioned.

There isn’t a day I don’t wish Letterman and his lousy sense of commitment to the late show would just retire and let Ferguson take over. He’d finally get the recognition his far-superior talent deserves.

To me: these are the best comedy shows hosts:
    1. Jay Leno
    2. Craig Ferguson: he is hilarious, the most natural, innovative host on TV.
    3. David Letterman.

    Biggest Suckers:
    1. Jimmy Fallon.
    2. Conan O Brien.
    Cheers.
