Monday Morning Box Office Report: Jo Bros Get Hosed

Don’t mess with Tyler Perry… that is the moral of this week’s box office battle. Despite predictions for a strong opening, Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience ended up getting stomped by Madea Goes to Jail leaving it with just $12.7 million — just barely enough to slip by Slumdog Millionaire to take the #2 spot. You can’t really say the movie bombed, but it’s a far cry from the $31 million opening that Hannah Montana’s concert film had last year. Speaking of bombs, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li opened at #8 with just $4.65 million… not even the hardcore gamers went to see this thing! I suppose they’ll probably use the excuse that everyone stayed home to play Street Fighter IV instead?

    so, can we turn this into a tyler perry hate fest…I’ll go first:

    Hater/troll: He is a talentless hack of epic proportions, peddling his cliched dreck to a specific audience willing to swallow any flavoring of swill he squeezes out of his ass pimples. A grown man playing an old woman in a fat suit…it’s 2009 and we still haven’t got past this?

    Defender: He movies and tv shows make a ton of bank and pack theaters and couches…you’re just jealous of his success cause you couldn’t do it better. I love all his films and think he is a genius and an auteur…he is an all in one package…writer, director, star, comedian, actor, and visionary. His name should be put right next to scorsese, coppolla, and kubrick. fuck all the haters.
