Total Recall Remake Moves Forward

That picture up there? Yeah, that’s kind of how I feel right now. I don’t think this is the first we’ve heard of a Total Recall remake, but at this point it’s no longer just a pesky little rumour. That’s right, another Paul Verhoeven classic is about to make its return to the big screen by way of producer Neal Moritz (I Am Legend, The Fast and the Furious), who is in final negotiations with Columbia Pictures to make it happen. The original Total Recall starring Arnold Schwarzenegger grossed a solid $261 million worldwide, and was based on the Philip K. Dick short story, We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.

So what would a “contemporary version” of Total Recall look like? Frankly I’m not sure. Even though the original came out almost 20 years ago, it still holds up surprisingly well today. It’s certainly up there among my favourite flicks of all time, and while I’d be curious to see what kind of upgrade they can bring to the table in terms of visual effects, without a truly kick-ass director it will probably end up being another Next or Paycheck. They’ve got Darren Aronofsky on Robocop… who can they get for Total Recall?

    IT be interesting to see a different take on the short story but I doubt it will hold up to the classic original. Who would be lead actor? I say Ben Affleck.

    I don’t feel like a Robocop remake is a terrible idea (ARONOFSKY WITH A BUDGET SOUNDS GOOD). The classic nature of Total Recall (which mainly attributed to Arnold, the pictured sequence, and triple tits) really doesn’t need to be reimagined.

    The movie is gonna suck. All this, remakin movies that have already done more than well, back in the day has gotta stop. Why take the chance of Fuckin up a movie that’s original version had triumphed. The three names that I just mentioned from the first movie, are the ones responsible for making Total Recall an unforgettable classic blockbuster.

    Applying this phrase to film pisses me off. It’s trying to make remakes sound legit or something. Verhoeven is still alive. Arnold is stil alive. I remember seeing Total Recall in the theaters when I was little. Just call this a remake.

    Maybe im just getting old, lol.

  • When they start remaking Arnold’s movie its cause for concern. I saw Total Recall 4 times in a theater. No need to remake it. Films not even 20 years old.

    It’s not like people are going to forget the original. So, nothing but good can come of this. If it’s a new spin that turns out great, then that’s awesome. If it pales in comparison to the original, the remake will be forgotten.
