50 Cent to Write and Produce a Saints Row Movie?

Get rich or die tryin’… words to live by, my friends. Whether you’re a drug dealer on the streets of Queen, a multi-platinum rapper, or a big shot movie producer, in the end, all that matters is that you’re livin’ the dream. Of course, some of those scenarios are slightly more comfortable than others, which explains why 50 Cent has been taking so much interest in the movie industry as of late. After landing roles in movies like Home of the Brave and Righteous Kill, he has now set up his own production company and written and directed his first film, Before I Self Destruct. It looks pretty terrible, but that’s beside the point.

What may potentially be of interest to a lot of people is the fact that 50 Cent claims to be in the process of optioning the big screen rights to the video game Saints Row. The game is succinctly described as a Grand Theft Auto clone, although it did sell quite well (the sequel not as much). Digital Spy reports that in a recent telephone press conference, Fitty had this to say: “With my relationship with THQ, you’ll actually see me develop Saints Row into a screenplay and into a film project”.

Somehow I can’t believe THQ would be foolish enough to let 50 Cent write or produce this thing. Have him star in it? Sure. Slap his name on it as executive producer? Sure. But I think we all know that to give him creative control over it would be an absolute disaster. Personally I’d rather see him write and direct a movie adaptation of his own upcoming video game 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand. The game features 50 Cent and members of the G-Unit fighting through the Middle East to find a diamond-encrusted skull. (I kid you not… check out the trailer below.) What are your thoughts on a Saints Row movie?

  • “With my relationship with THQ, you’ll actually see me develop Saints Row into a screenplay and into a film project”

Doesn’t he just mean he’ll be putting up money? At any rate this movie won’t happen in the way he says it will. Why would anyone care about a bootleg movie based on a bootleg version of GTA?

It’s so strange that there hasn’t been movie version of GTA…with bullshit rumors of Monopoly flicks it seems Hollywood is eager to cash in on ANYTHING with a following. I’m surprised we didn’t see a GTA movie after Vice City (which solidified the franchise’s popularity).

    GGGGGGG-UNIT

  • Where’s my skull!?!

  • Matt

Yes, I have often seen myself on the “streets of Queen.” I keed, I keed. The Saints Row game was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Sure it was big, dumb, and stupid fun. But fun nonetheless. Much like 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand appears to be. But a movie that’s just big and stupid has rarely satisfied me. I guess that’s why I hated Transformers and the new Incredible Hulk movie so much.

  • WORD! dat flick sounds whack man, yiiiiiir!!!

  • Where my skull?

  • wow…

    FAIL!

  • I don’t know if 50 cent can act outside his own type of personality.(thuggish) But this movie is worth seeing in theaters.
No, its not. I havent even seen it and I can say that with gusto.
