Michael Cera Finally Signs on for an Arrested Development Movie?

Please for the love of god, someone make it stop. For the past year or so we have been hearing an endless stream of “on again/off again” rumours about an Arrested Development movie. Every time one cast member would say “Yes, it’s happening”, another one would say, “What Arrested Development movie?”. Well, it turns out that the main holdout all along has been, as suspected, Michael Cera. And really, who can blame the guy? Out of everyone, he’s got the most going on with his career right now, and doesn’t need to fall back on his previous work.
But before you go calling him a spoiled brat, take a deep breath, my friends… it looks like the rest of the cast have finally convinced him to sign on to the project. The report comes from Kristin Dos Santos of E! Online, who claims that series creator Mitchell Hurwitz is writing the script, Fox Searchlight is the studio, and — get this — Ron Howard is directing! Sounds like someone’s a little desperate for some indie cred. At any rate, the movie could be out by the end of the year if all goes well, and the cast members have apparently been asked to stop blabbing about it for a while, which is a relief. I promise you, this will be the last time I report on unsubstantiated rumours of an Arrested Development movie until I actually hear something official. But until then, keep your fingers crossed, because as Ron Howard says, “it’s looking good”.
