Robert Rodriguez to Direct Sci-Fi Thriller Nerverackers

Despite all the rumours we’ve heard about Sin City 2 and 3, Red Sonja, Barbarella and even The Jetsons and a Predator sequel, it looks like the next couple of Robert Rodriguez projects to hit the big screen will likely be original stories. First up, on August 7th, we have the Warner Brothers family adventure film Shorts starring William H. Macy and Kat Dennings. After that, it looks like Rodriguez will be reteaming with Dimension Films to write and direct a movie called Nerverackers.

According to Variety, Nerverackers is a futuristic thriller that takes place in the year 2085, where a soldier named Joe Tezca leads a team of specialists sent in to stop a crime wave that is breaking out in a utopian society. There’s not much else known about it at the moment, but the release date has already been set: April 16, 2010. What the heck is going on here… someone is actually greenlighting films that aren’t remakes? Unbelievable. What do you think about Rodriguez going sci-fi? Are you disappointed to hear that he won’t be immediately taking on some of the aforementioned projects?

I think he’ll do great in si-fi, I loved his Quinton collaboration and I just read a great review of the movie on EverHype (add your own movie, music, and game reviews by creating a free account at http://www.everhype.com/?utm_source=bc) so I’m sure he has the fan base to support him. I am a little disappointed in The Jetsons being put on the back burner – after his Spy Kids 3-D movie, I thought he’d do great with this one.

Hell yes I’m dissapointed… Ever since Sin City, I’ve been dyin ta see 2 and 3; that he had been talkin about doin, forever. I love most of his movies, but gettin hyped up about films he says he’s gonna do, and doesn’t… that’s just plan wrong. Don’t be messin wit fans heads, Bob.
