When we first heard last May that a Donnie Darko sequel was in development, it seemed like a leftover April Fool’s Joke, but alas, it has turned out to be completely true. The movie does not involve any of the major cast members from the original, but will star Daveigh Chase as Donnie’s younger sister Samantha — thus the title, S. Darko. Apparently time travel and bizarre visions run in the family; when Samantha is on a road trip to L.A. with her best friend Corey (Briana Evigan), a meteorite crashes to the earth, and Samantha foresees the end of the universe. Whoa. Kristina and Marina Malota will also reprise their roles as Susie and Emily Bates.

Collider tells us that the full trailer for S. Darko will premiere at the New York Comic Con this weekend, but in the meantime, here’s a teaser trailer that has been floating around the web. It doesn’t really show much, but it does prove that this thing is really happening. S. Darko is directed by Chris Fisher (Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders, Nightstalker) and written by Nathan Atkins (former editor on Masters of Horror and 24). MGM will release the movie direct-to-DVD on April 28th.
