Observe and Report Trailer Starring Seth Rogen and Anna Faris

Now that Paul Blart has had a chance to cash in at the box office with some cute and harmless PG-13 jokes, it’s time to shift our focus to the second (and, I’m guessing, far superior) mall cop movie of the year: Observe and Report starring Seth Rogen and Anna Faris. But before you go assuming that this is another Judd Apatow production, know this: it’s written and directed by Jody Hill, who previously directed the Danny McBride cult classic The Foot Fist Way. After watching the red band trailer for this movie, I can kinda see why Moviefone is being so damn strict with their age-limit checking (of course, that doesn’t change the fact that the checking doesn’t seem to WORK, so no one will be able to see the trailer there).

At any rate, it’s clear that this has almost nothing in common with Paul Blart whatsoever. It’s dark, tense, gritty, and revolting… but man, does it look amazing. I had no idea that this is the kind of movie we were in for. Rogen looks seriously intense in this flick, and I love that they are turning him into a tortured soul type of character rather than another goofy manchild. Together with the upcoming premiere of HBO’s Eastbound & Down, Jody Hill is delivering one hell of a sinister comedy one-two punch. Observe and Report hits theatres on April 10th; check out the trailer below (but only if you’re old enough to handle it).

  • I think that Seth Rogen, as big as he is right now, is going to get even bigger in the next few years. In my opinion, he is the next big thing in comedy. And having Anna Faris in this movie makes it better, because she is always good.

This movie looks like it could be good. As long as it didn’t put all of the best parts in the trailer. That last part in the trailer made me lol.

    This trailer looks FUCKING amazing.

  • swarez

That was great. Vile and disgusting. I love it. Seems like a good companion piece with Bad Santa.

And I didn’t know Reed had a twin and was in this film.

  • This looks so awesome, and being 15, i’m offended by you saying if your old enough to handle it. :)

  • BTW, the music in this trailer is perfect, this is exactly what I wanted from this movie. I wanted a pineapple express style dark comedy and luckly that is exactly what they are doing. All the action scenes in this are awesome, I loved when they punched out the punk kids. I wanna get punched by a badass rogen. And also, I have a feeling this trailer blew Jay’s mind. Just saying.

  • Theman

Coming out to soon. They should wait until the public can wash the blart out of its mouth. This should be a late summer release like the pineapple express.

  • Primal

Awesome trailer. I can’t wait to see it. Nothing about this movie is reminding me of Paul Blart though for some reason. The title of this movie isn’t trying to call attention to itself like Blart.

  • Me

The trailer started out kind of shitty but then gets fucking awesome. Anyody know what song that is at the 1:30 mark? Is that the Faces?

  • Looks good.

  • Neil M

I didn’t really think it was that funny, but it looks like it definitely has the potential to be awesome.

  • Neil M

Some of the cinematography in this look really nice. I love the shot of Rogen with the magnum.

  • If this is the future of comedy, I desperately want to go back to the 80s. :P

  • Didn’t seem laugh-out-loud funny but that’s the nature of dark comedy (which is what this seems to be). This looks like the exact opposite of the slapstick bullshit of Blood Fart and I’d actually like to see it! I’ve been growing tired of the constant sex jokes in other comedies starring Apatow regulars (not to mention the constant reuse of the same actors) so this will be a refreshing change of pace.

The title is terrible though–sounds like a boring political thriller starring Dennis Quaid or someone that eats shit. Also, while Rogen seems to be branching out to a different character; it looks like Anna Faris is doing same tired old schtick.

  • David

This looks altogether the same as the spoof movies (with Anna Faris) and the other crapatow films. Anna Faris is the same (and she does pull off comedy quite well, but is now typecast). Seth Rogen plays Seth Rogen plays Seth Rogen, what a surprise. Monotone and unfunny without a hint of acting skills. Groan and bore. Intense? Sure, this guy is the next William Shatner of acting.

  • Goon

As much as I appreciate the “Crapatow” burn as a nice piece of wordplay, David’s post re: Apatow and Rogen definitely shows that again, EVERY comedian who gets a hot streak ends up with a backlash.

  • This movie looks like it could go both ways. I like Seth Rogen and Ray Liotta, but god damn it how I hate Anna Faris.

However I really hope this doesn’t turn out to be another Pineapple Express, that movie sucked. The action was so lame and all that weed-humor is just so bad and overused.

  • Well I have to give David credit, I think he has been crapping on Apatow and Rogen since way before any backlash began. But saying that there’s no difference between this and Scary Movie is a bit of a stretch if you ask me.

  • Adam

Seriously, the Scary Movie statement is idiotic. Last I checked that movie didn’t evoke a Taxi Driver feel.

  • Spencer

Dude what was that last song that kept saying assault man?
