A Bonnie and Clyde Remake Starring Hilary Duff?

Ah, Bonnie and Clyde. Nothing says true love like machine guns and bank robberies. Although their story has been told on screen many times over the years, probably the most memorable version was Arthur Penn’s 1967 film starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. It was apparently pretty controversial at the time, what with glorification of violence, sexual content and the particularly bloody shootouts (due to the use of squibs). Here’s the good news though: someone’s planning a new “teeny bopper” version of the story that probably won’t even be as violent as the original! Yay!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hilary Duff and Kevin Zegers (Dawn of the Dead, Zoom, Fifty Dead Men Walking) are in talks to play the notorious gangsters in The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, directed by Tonya S. Holly (When I Find The Ocean). They are quick to re-assure everyone that it’s not a direct remake, and although the original wasn’t entirely accurate, it’s kind of hard to believe that there is a different angle worth taking here. Holly is promising “to showcase times in the couple’s lives not seen onscreen before”. They fail to mention exactly what kind of tone we can expect, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a pretty hard sell with Duff in one of the lead roles. Then again, who knows… maybe this is her first step towards a more serious acting career?
