HBO’s Eastbound & Down Trailer and Premiere Date

The latest chapter in HBO’s quest to secure a new hit series finds them teaming up with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, the very same guys who made Anchorman, Talladega Nights and Step Brothers. You may remember that they also championed the heck out of a little indie comedy called The Foot Fist Way last year, and their new show is another collaboration between writer/director Jody Hill, co-writer Ben Best and star Danny McBride. It’s called Eastbound & Down, with McBride playing a disgraced major league pitcher who is forced to return to his hometown where he gets a job as a gym teacher.
The pilot episode leaked onto torrent sites sometime last year, showcasing McBride in all his mullet-sporting, mean-spirited glory. I’m not sure if that is the reason why the show is now getting rushed to air so quickly, but late last year they shot the six episodes for the first season. With Jody Hill busy directing the new Seth Rogen movie Observe and Report, they called in David Gordon Green (All The Real Girls, Pineapple Express) to take over. I think this has a lot of potential, and it could end up being just what HBO needs. Ferrell himself even has a small part, which can’t hurt. The good news is, they’ve finally set a premiere date of Sunday, Feb. 15, at 10:30 p.m. Head over to the official website (linked below) to see a trailer that includes clips of the show and interviews with Ferrell and McBride.
