CONTEST: Win American Teen on DVD!

One of the most divisive documentaries of the year was the Sundance hit American Teen, directed by Nanette Burstein. The movie follows 5 students in their senior year at high school in a small town in Indiana. Here at Film Junk we generally dug the movie, but some people felt it was too manufactured to truly be called a “documentary”.

Well, American Teen is now out on DVD, and if you’re interested in checking out the movie, we’ve got 5 copies to give away right here, right now! To enter the contest, just send your name and mailing address to filmjunk@gmail.com with “American Teen Contest” in the subject line. We’ll randomly pick winners from all the entries we receive and announce them by next Wed., Dec. 31st.

Extras include:

  • Pop Quiz: Cast Interviews
  • Hannah Blogs
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Character Trailers

Good luck!

for some reason in the US this movie is exclusive to Target

lame deal for a movie that barely made any money.

What a fucking piece of shit. Greg was right about everybody being fucking annoying. Yes it was staged and it felt it and …….fuck……this movie pissed me off! Dont see it anyone. please.

I watched it again, rented it to show a friend. I really do think its a must see, even just if you’re only making fun of these people.

It felt IMMENSELY less staged the second time, and you realize so much of who is simply playing up for the camera and it is so much less awkward.

it still has enough flaws that it kept it will off my top 10, but I like the movie well enough, and if you even moderately liked it, the deleted scenes are worth checking out, specifically this one chick who fucks with Jacob’s head for a goodnight kiss for the longest, most pathetic time. also, Hannah has all these video blog entries, tonnes of them, and when you watch them all back to back, they are so sublimely funny in the same way Errol Morris’ early documentaries just kept the camera on people as they babbled on about nothing like idiots. fascinating.
