Maggie Q to Star in King of Fighters Live Action Movie

Well I didn’t see this coming! Looks like there’s another video game movie on its way to the big screen. This one is based on the popular fighting game King of Fighters and will star Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard). It’s being directed by…. zzzzzzzz… oops, sorry I nodded off for a minute there. Where was I? Oh yes, directed by Gordon Chan (Fist of Legend).

They’re obviously not trying to make a big blockbuster here as the movie is budgeted at a modest $12 million. That said, I’m sure King of Fighters probably has enough of a hardcore following to make all that money back and then some. Unfortunately, for the rest of us, this is going to be another marginal and mundane video game adaptation that is probably of little interest. (I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but fighting games generally don’t have much in the way of a plot.) Still, there’s always Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li to look forward to, right? King of Fighters is currently in production and is expected to be released sometime next summer.

    THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF IT. They don’t need to condense or cut anything…they can just create something that is appropriate for a movie. All a fighting game movie needs is a classic kung fu plot along with great fight scenes and it’ll be solid.

    Hollywood just keeps making it so damn hard for themselves. (WHY CAN”T THEY UNDERSTAND THAT STREET FIGHTER IS ALL ABOUT HADOKEN.) It must be something to do with all the crack cocaine…

    Btw…I’m surprised any Neo Geo movie is being made outside of Japan. Who still cares in the west? Who actually even knows the characters to this series over here?

    Maggie Q will be one of the fighters in this movie but
    the movie will be about the clans fighting in a tournament and ray park is going to be in the film I wish that ray park should play rayden in the Mortal Kombat movie remake with a cast like Shin Koyamada for Liu Kang,maybe Vanessa Hudgens as Kitana and another Asian martial artist as Kung Lao.
    Darkstalkers would make a good movie well not really but I think that Mortal Kombat producer Larry Kasanoff
    could pull the Darkstalkers with Capcom to make the movie.

  • This movie should be set on an island, and all the fighters have to compete to see who is the king of the fighters. Hollywood, that one’s on me!
