Best Batman Rumour Yet: Eddie Murphy as The Riddler, Shia LaBeouf as Robin?

Yes, it is most definitely a slow news week, so after hearing the wacky rumour that came out a few days ago about Rachel Weisz as Catwoman, UK rag The Sun decided it was necessary to up the ante just a little bit. This time they’ve dreamed up not one but two new casting choices that are both so outlandish, so utterly brilliant, that I, for one, wish they actually had some element of truth to them.

First off: Eddie Murphy as The Riddler. Man, this is just what Eddie needs to get himself back on top. A role in a critically-acclaimed blockbuster with an ensemble cast where he can play the funny man. Surely he would kill for such a thing, and I would love to see it, if only for the sheer controversy of having a black man portray Edward Nigma. Alas, there is no way in hell Christopher Nolan would ever let Eddie Murphy near the Batman franchise. Now for the piece de resistance: Shia LaBeouf as Robin! Hey, he made a great sidekick for Indiana Jones, why not Bruce Wayne? He could get all nervous and frazzled any time Batman pulls out a new gadget or blows something up, and make cracks about needing to get home in time to do his homework. Just genius casting, all around. Unfortunately, Christopher Nolan has said from the start that Robin will never be a part of his vision of Batman. Then again, that was before The Beef started eyeing the role. Mark my words, all it will take is one short phone call from Spielberg to make this a reality! Keep your fingers crossed folks, no one has denied any of this just yet.

Buddy Love as The Riddler definitely works for me. Seriously!

“so after hearing the wacky rumour that came out a few days ago about Rachel Weisz as Catwoman”

Wacky rumor? For one, Weisz is a great actress and two, that rumor has gain some traction from Cinemablend and Batman on film:

  • I want to see the riddler and his whole extended family all played by Eddie Murphy in a fatsuit. It will really bring in the “urban” crowd, if you know what I am saying.

  • I am speechless. (not in a good way!)

  • Goon

When I read this i had to look at the post author, because I was certain this was Jay’s sequel to “Tim Allen is the Joker?”

Anyways it aint gonna happen so I hope nobody shits a brick.

  • Goon…how about P.Diddy being the next James Bond?

  • Nicamber

I agree with the speechless (not in a good way). Shia already got the Indi series and Transformers and… he does not need to infiltrate Batman as well. Eddie Murphy would have possibly been cool for the first set of Batman’s, but seriously unfortunate in the new ones. Weisz is amazing on the other hand, and would do better than Jolie as catwoman. Im still waiting to see Harley Quinn up on that screen….

  • Wes

I thought Ben Stiller was going to be the Scarecrow?

  • Ian

In this current iteration the only way I can see the Riddler working is as a serial killer (and yeah it might be kind of tired) that leaves riddles and whatnot. Not sure Eddie would work. And Robin is never going to happen with Bale so that’s out of course.

    I don’t belive it.
Nolan himself said once in an interview that he found the Robin character stupid (or somthing like that)

Rumours rumours rumours – I guess the next one is Jason Alexander as the Penguin.

Now that would be something…. :D

The director of these “new” Batman movies has stated that Robin will never, ever appear–let alone played by Shia LaBeouf.

  • Jeff

I hate Shia Labeouf. He ruined transformers and is too much of a bitch to play robin. Robin was a grown ass man and this kid is horrible at playing a “tough” character. Keep Shia Labeouf out of potentially good films because i wont even touch a movie he is in.
