As I’m sure many of you have already heard, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences finally announced their host for January’s Oscar telecast, and it’s not Billy Crystal, Jon Stewart, or even Ricky Gervais. Nope, the person who will be emceeing Hollywood’s most prestigious annual event is none other than The Sexiest Man Alive: Hugh Jackman! Did anyone see that coming? I sure didn’t.
Apparently Jackman has hosted the Tony Awards numerous times and done a pretty respectable job. I can certainly see it. He’s a charismatic guy, he’s got a sense of humour, and he’s a hit with the ladies. But does this mean that Baz Luhrmann’s Australia has already been counted out of the Oscar race? Wouldn’t that be a little weird if Jackman was a host and a nominee? I also can’t help but think it will be a nice little plug for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, although as Jackman himself mentions in this clip below, I don’t think Fox will be too pleased if he does any of his singing and dancing on stage. What do you think about the choice? Will Hugh Jackman do a good job hosting the 81st Annual Academy Awards?
