New To Theatres This Weekend: The Day The Earth Stood Still, Delgo, Doubt

This week the biggest movie hitting theatres is the remake of the classic sci-fi flick The Day The Earth Stood Still, starring Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly. If that doesn’t strike your fancy, you can always turn to the independent CG flick Delgo or the holiday comedy Nothing Like The Holidays. This is also the weekend that a ton of the Oscar hopefuls start making their qualifying runs. Among the films in limited release this weekend we have Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino, Steven Soderbergh’s Che, Doubt starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman, and The Reader starring Kate Winslet. Unfortunately most of us won’t actually get to see them until the new year. What are you checking out this weekend?

  • Re: The Day The Earth Stood Still…I dunno…part of me WANTS to like it, but the whole destroying the planet thing….too cliche now.

The Day the Earth Stood Still, Doubt, Gran Torino, The Reader, and Che are all movies I want to see this weekend, but the latter 4 won’t be local/isn’t even showing yet where I live :(

    Damn good weekend for theater-going.

Saw Slumdog Millionaire and it was great! Sold out shows opening night around here, though it wasn’t a very big theater either.
