Turn Your Backyard Into a Drive-In with Open Air Cinema Inflatable Screen

With Christmas quickly approaching, I thought it would be a good time to suggest some gifts for the movie geek in your family. What better way to do that then to mention something that I personally would love to get my hands on? As you may know, we’re big fans of the drive-in here at Film Junk, and every summer we do our best to catch as many blockbusters as possible while lounging in lawn chairs and eating poutine. But what if you could have that same experience in your very own backyard? Well now you can, with the Open Air Home Screen!

Open Air Cinema has created a line of inflatable projection screens that weigh less than 20 pounds when deflated. The sizes range from 9′ to 40′ across, and they are so compact that they can be stored inside a duffle bag when not being used. Here’s the catch: the screens can be a bit pricey, with the extreme high end model being over $15,000, however the home models range from $449 to $999. Maybe a few people can pool together their money for my Christmas gift this year? They also sell full backyard theatre packages, complete with projector and sound system. • I wonder how this does in the wind. I imagine that it would want to flutter a whole lot. Unintentional Shaky cam effect might not be a good selling point.

in the wind its not bad, i was able to watch something a few years back at this beach presentation in south jersey. its not as bad as one would guess. you tie it down well enough and your good to go.

  • nice. i always wanted to watch movies on a big screen while chilling in my little cousins’ kiddie pool.

Great. Man keeps coming up with more ways to annoy the shitter out of others.
