J.K. Rowling’s The Tales of Beedle The Bard: The Movie?

If you’re the head of a movie studio, there’s nothing better than landing the rights to a movie franchise based on a best-selling series of books. It’s a dream come true: a continuous cash cow with a built-in fanbase. The only problem is that eventually you will run out of source material — unless, of course, the original author manages to stay one step ahead of you. Case in point: J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter franchise. While we already know that Warner Brothers is reluctant to let the movies come to an end (they even had to stretch the final installment out to two movies), it looks like they might already have another sequel of sorts waiting in the wings when the time comes.

Earlier this year, Rowling released The Tales of Beedle The Bard, a collection of short stories that is actually a “book within a book”, first mentioned in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Naturally, the stories don’t involve Harry Potter or any of his friends, but are actually supposed to be fairy tales for wizards. Cinema Blend reports that Warner Brothers are currently examining the possibility of bringing these stories to the big screen. The tricky part is finding a way to connect them, since the stories are all unrelated. Perhaps they will have a framed narrative with Harry Potter reading the stories to the next class of young wizards? Either way, I’m sure this will happen eventually, just as we will probably see more Tolkien movies based on The Silmarillion or his other works once The Hobbit is complete. Where there’s a will there’s a way, and where there’s money to be made, there’s a will!

They could probably string together the short stories the way they did for the A Series of Unfortunate Events movie, which was based on the first three books in the series.

This is one of the few points where studio greed is actually a good thing for fans…Deathly Hollows has very little fat and/or anti-cinematic elements to be trimmed.

Has anyone ever tried to read The Silmarillion? Probably one of the toughest books to read but if they could adapt it to a movie, I’d think about renting it.

  • i think they could deffinetly make a movie based on the book and they dont neccesarily have to string them together i mean they could just go one after the other
