Grant Morrison’s We3 Gains a Director

As a fan of comic writer Grant Morrison’s work, my ears perked up when I heard that a movie adaptation of his We3 mini-series might be in development. Those rumours first emerged a year or two ago, with producer Don Murphy (Transformers) shopping around a script that Morrison himself wrote. The story, which Murphy describes as “The Incredible Journey meets Terminator and Watership Down“, is about three animals (a dog, a cat and a rabbit) that are turned into killing machines by the government using cybernetic combat suits, but then escape and attempt to return home.

This week we finally have news of a director coming on board the project, and it’s the same guy that we previously heard might be directing a new He-Man movie: John Stevenson, co-director of Kung Fu Panda. According to Shock Till You Drop, despite Stevenson’s background, the movie is going to be live action. It’s still unclear whether or not the animals themselves will be CG, but I hope they attempt to keep it as real as possible because it will only make it that much more compelling. Don Murphy also explains that the movie will be rated R, and will not be “cutesy”, which is a sign to me that they are heading in the right direction. Either way, it’s certainly not going to be your typical comic book movie, which is exactly why I am stoked to see this project get made. What do you think, is Stevenson a good choice to direct We3?

  • Wow that picture looks weird, looking forward for that movie ^^
