Dark Knight Fans Launch Annoying Grassroots Oscar Campaign

Hey, remember that comic book movie that came out back in the summer that made almost $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales and earned rave reviews from both fans and critics alike? Of course you do. How could you forget? Unfortunately, now that Oscar season is rolling around, and the DVD is about to be released, it’s time for another wave of hype for The Dark Knight. In my opinion, the movie is strong enough to withstand almost any excess hype you want to throw at it. It’s just that good. But now that the fans have started to get into the act, I can’t help but feel a little bit… annoyed.

The website DarkCampaign.com has been launched in order to try and spread the word and remind everyone that the movie deserves to be recognized this year at the Oscars. As if this was really necessary. Hey, I think it deserves recognition too, and I get that people want to see their favourite film get nominated. The thing is, there’s already a good chance of that happening. Asking fans to e-mail websites and blog about it and petition for these nominations to happen is only going to hurt its chances. This is only going to reinforce the Academy’s bias against comic book movies, and the massive marketing machines behind them. So come on people, just give it a rest and let the movie speak for itself.

ledger deserves something…NOT the movie…god…I’m getting sick of waiting for things to GO AWAY in movie world…right now it’s mainly the memories that Indy 4 exists and the culture of aggressively over passionate teenage losers who think that they know the all encompassing nature and scope of film because batman got “serious” this summer, give me a fucking break. You’re exactly right Sean…its ANNOYING…Dark Knight, greatest movie ever? CALM DOWN…have you even ever seen a movie that was made before 1995?!?! I’m not saying I know the “all encompassing nature and scope” but I’ve (we’ve, most likely if you are reading this) seen a much larger, assorted mix of films from all over the planet and from all of cinema’s almost 80 years of run time…these kids and their love for the flawed TDK think the art just peaked. Come On!

I know, I know, let them have theirs…I’m bitter and old…

    Damn kids and their music…

  • Hey Bob, I think we may have more in common than one might have thought.

Let me know what you think of this:

Henrik, as much as I love your for your fiercly strong opinions…I gotta say that we dont seem to have THAT much in common when it comes to film or movies. I dont have much research to back that up either way mind you.

As for the list…absolutely love it…except I pretty much fail at 4,5, and 10. I prefer the Star Wars OT over star trek (maybe not Wrath of Kahn), I’m not a fan of most children, and I was legitimately moved by the END of clerks 2…BUT…I pass all the rest with insane-o-fuck flying colors…especially number 3.
