If Will Farrell can put out all those ridiculous films and still have an audience, I don’t see why Katherine Heigl can’t do the same LOL Seriously, they are making “Pink Panther 2″, so I’ll definitely pay for a ticket to see The Ugly Truth.

And why should Gerard Butler have to master an American accent why can’t he use his Scottish accent. America is a “melting pot” and there is no true “American accent” anyway, North, South, Midwest, East, West take your pick.

Haha, I know most romantic comedies in history suck, but there a few that I will always love, even if they are predictable crap. I grew up on Splash, and I think that is a great movie because it has adventure and fantasy elements and great comedic performances tied into the love story.

Beyond that though, I’m having trouble coming up with any rom-com that I would willing watch over and over again.

I loved Gerard Butler in Dear Frankie, but I have yet to see him in anything else that really impresses me. I’m hopeful that he’ll do something eventually, but this is definitely not it.

@Ashley: Shall We Dance (the Japanese Original version of course) was probably as squeaky clean as a romantic comedy could ever be considering that they are all about teh sex no matter how you try to spin it. Sex jokes are the easiest way to get a laugh. Therefore, most comedies will fall back on them…so good ol’ grandma should probably just stay home and watch TCM.

Shall We Dance and Annie Hall are probably the only romcoms I’ve seen that are actually great films that transcend the stigma of the genre. (The stigma being that romcoms are predictable shit that primarily appeals to women. Those two movies prove it doesn’t have to be that way!)

BTW: Am I the only person that finds it disappointing that Gerard Butler isn’t skilled enough to pull off an American accent?
