Gran Torino to Be Clint Eastwood’s Final Acting Gig?

I guess this shouldn’t come as a big surprise, but with all the talk of Joaquin Phoenix retiring from acting, it looks like Clint Eastwood is preparing to do the same. Of course, Clint Eastwood isn’t planning to launch a music career as far as I know, he’s simply looking to concentrate on directing instead.

According to Cinema Blend, Eastwood recently told an Irish newspaper that Gran Torino will likely be his last time in front of the camera:

“It’ll probably be my last. I’ll be drummed out of it after this one. Every time you do a movie you think, ‘Aw, that’s enough of that.’… I always feel it’s very comfortable to be behind the camera.”

Prior to this, his last performance was in Million Dollar Baby, and before that the movies Blood Work and Space Cowboys. There’s no mistaking the fact that Clint is getting older, but he still seems to be in pretty great shape for a guy who’s 78. What do you think, is this a good decision? Would you rather see Clint Eastwood do more acting, or are his directing gigs much more interesting at this point?

I think this is a good idea, in my opinion he has yet to tarnish his legacy, why risk it. And why not end his career like a bad ass.

    nice pic lol!

  • Clint Eastwood couldn’t tarnish his legacy if he tried.

Anyway, in that same interview, he sames something along of the lines of that he always says he will retire, but he never does and he probably won’t this time even though he is thinking about it. Yeah.

  • When Clint Eastwood’s in a good movie, he’s always good in it. He doesn’t seem to be one to take any truly embarrassing roles that tarnish his rep. Well, not counting the ones where he co-stars with an orangutan …

I’m real excited about his new film, so I hope it won’t be his last gig, but hey, the guy’s old and knows better than we do if he can go on acting. His directing work is pretty much hit or miss for me. I think my favorite Eastwood films are the ones he stars in.

  • Eastwood is a true bad ass and a damn fine director too. If he does retire from acting, it will just mean more time to focus on directing. I’m ok with that.
