Sam Raimi Adaptation of Wildstorm Comic Sleeper Lands Writer

Looks like a screenwriter has been named for the upcoming adaption of the DC/Wildstorm comic Sleeper, originally created by Ed Brubaker. It was first reported a couple of months ago that Sam Raimi would be producing with Tom Cruise starring, but now it appears that Cruise may have dropped out. Newcomer Brad Ingelsby will pen the script, who also recently sold Low Dweller to Relativity Media. This has caused some confusion, with a lot of people originally reporting that Ridley Scott would be directing Sleeper and Leonardo DiCaprio starring, but in fact they are only involved in Low Dweller. (I can see how the wording in the original Variety article would be misleading.)
Sleeper was originally a spin-off of sorts from Jim Lee’s WildC.A.T.s, about an undercover operative named Holden Carver, a.k.a. The Conductor, who is planted in a criminal organization led by Tao (Tactical Augmented Organism). As a result of an encounter with an alien artifact, Carver has the ability to heal quickly, and not only avoid pain, but also store it up and pass it on to others through skin contact. Weird. I’ll be curious to see who directs this flick, but at the moment it sounds like it could be a lot of fun.
