The trailer of The Road, unfortunately, does not seem very good, very far from McCarthy’s novel !

I saw the screening of the raw movie last night in NYC and I loved it. Some people in the audience did not like it that much, but as a true fan of the book and a avid fan of McCarthy, I was pleased and thought the movie did an excellent job portraying the novel’s intent. I hope they release it this year because I would love to see it again. Mortensen and McPhee were outstanding, and some of the scenes are still haunting me today. Anyone who has read the book (and a lot of negative comments about the movie last night were from those who have not read it) should love Hillcoat’s adaptation. Hopefully they will not change too much to cater to those that don’t understand what this story is about.

This is the only thing that worries me is that if they can’t make the 2008 cut off, they might wait until the next Oscar season to release it, which means we’d have to wait like a whole extra year!

On the plus side, I guess it would give me more time to read the book.

It would be a real shame if the movie didn’t get released this year. The source material is most definitely award-worthy. I read the book last month after seeing some of the production photos for the film. It looks like Viggo is very commited to the role and that he’s pouring his heart out. And I just saw a couple of photos. I hope that the movie does not come out at the beginning of next year, because I think a lot of people would forget about it by the time the Oscars roll around in 2010.
