Yogi Bear Live-Action CG Movie On The Way

Looks like another classic cartoon is about to get butchered on the big screen! Warner Brothers has hired Surf’s Up co-director/co-writer Ash Brannon to direct a feature film based on Hanna-Barbera’s Yogi Bear. The movie will be a live action/CG hybrid, with Yogi and his best buddy Boo Boo being the sole animated characters. Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia (That 70’s Show, Surviving Christmas) are writing the script.

After the inexplicable success of movies like Alvin and the Chipmunks and Garfield, this should be money in the bank, but I think we all know it’s going to be terrible. I don’t really care enough about Yogi Bear to have strong feelings about it one way or the other, although it would be nice to see a decent Hanna-Barbera adaptation one of these days. After suffering through the Scooby Doo and Flintstones live action flicks, I really don’t think I’ll pay money for this. Hey, whatever happened to Robert Rodriguez directing The Jetsons anyway?

  • Bob The Slob

I loved the first Flinstones movie…yeah I said it.

  • Matt

Gotta agree with Bob. The first Flinstones movie wasn’t half bad. Well…It was at least as good as the animated series on which it was based.

  • Whut?

  • First off, I recently watched some of the original Yogi Bear episodes on DVD. That shit is genuinely pretty funny. So based on that, this could be promising.

However, considering WB’s recent Hanna Barbara live-action film adaptations, Scooby Doo 1 + 2, I’m a little skeptical. Seeing a blobulous Yogi Bear on screen would probably suck. And the two writers don’t have the most promising track records …

Now, if they use actual costumes and animatronics to create Yogi and Boo Boo a la The Country Bears, I’m totally in!

  • next they’ll be making a captain caveman live-action flick starring joe pesci

  • But what about the Jetsons?!? I wanna see a CG Jetsons. And Hollyweird, if you do make one, could you make it an NC-17 with some nude scenes of George and Judy together. That would make it rather enjoyable IMO. LOL

  • Hey! What about a live-action/ computer-animated
SpongeBob-SquarePants movie based on the series!

  • Hey, whatever happened to Fat Albert 2?!!
