IFC’s Animated Horror Anthology Fear(s) of the Dark Trailer

I remember hearing about the French animated horror movie Peur(s) Du Noir (Fear(s) of the Dark) earlier in the year when it played at Sundance I believe. I seem to recall the early reviews being a little bit disappointing, but nonetheless IFC picked up the movie and announced plans to release it in select theatres starting next month. Along with that announcement, a North American trailer for the film has gone online.

The idea behind this movie is that it brings together 6 different shorts from a number of acclaimed graphic artists and writers, all using different animation styles but rendered primarily in black and white. The stories seem to play on the idea of a child’s fear of the dark and overly imaginative nightmares. Some of the art styles appear slightly reminiscent of Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis, but overall the movie looks unique and refreshing. Even though anthology films like this usually don’t live up to their potential, after watching the trailer I have to say I am definitely hoping to see it at some point. Fear(s) of the Dark hits select theatres on October 24th.

Wow, this is the first I’ve heard of this project and it looks pretty awesome. Much more excited for this than I am for another saw regurgitation.
