The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Behind the Scenes Featurette

There’s a new video that made its way around the web this past weekend that is a behind the scenes featurette for Terry Gilliam’s next film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Some people have been calling it a teaser trailer of sorts, but I’m not sure that’s quite appropriate. There is no actual footage from the movie shown, mainly just concept art and an explanation of the story from Gilliam himself.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen something amazing from Gilliam (I haven’t seen Tideland but The Brothers Grimm was pretty mediocre), and he makes a point of saying that The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnasses resembles the kinds of films he was making earlier in his career. I have to admit, it did actually get me a little bit more excited about this movie. I’m curious to see how this is received, especially considering that it features Heath Ledger’s final performance. Is this a movie you’re looking forward to? Stay tuned for more info on the movie as it becomes available. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus hits theatres sometime in 2009.

Don’t films with a name like that have a history of bombing at the theater? I’m sure though that Ledger’s name will drag a few people in the theater who otherwise would not be interested in seeing this.
