Clint Eastwood’s Changeling Trailer Starring Angelina Jolie

It seems that every year now when Oscar season rolls around, we can rest assured that there’s another Clint Eastwood movie just around the corner too. Indeed, his upcoming movie Changeling was one of the major films notably absent from the Toronto International Film Festival this year, but that hasn’t stopped the Oscar buzz from mounting. At this point, it’s pretty much just a given.

The first trailer for Changeling has now gone online, and although I knew next to nothing about the film prior to watching it, I gotta say I was totally sold. Angelina Jolie plays Christine Collins, a woman whose son disappeared in March 1928. When the LAPD claimed to have found her son and returned him to her, she insisted that it wasn’t him, but no one believed her. Although John Malkovich, Amy Ryan and Jeffrey Donovan co-star, the whole movie essentially rests on Jolie’s shoulders.

She’s already won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1999 for Girl, Interrupted (and should have been nominated for A Mighty Heart, if you ask me), but I have a feeling she’s going to be among the contenders for Best Actress this year. Of course, I say that without having seen the movie, but at this point, it’s pretty much just a given! Check out the trailer below, or watch it in high-def over at Yahoo!. Changeling hits select theatres on October 24th.

  • Both Jolie and Brad Pitt have become inseperable from their real life personas for me. I can’t enjoy their work as actors because they have become larger than their roles.

And I don’t think either one of them can act. That doesn’t help.

  • The story sounds sappy and boring, and Clint Eastwood from what I’ve seen is talentless and just got lucky with Unforgiven. The only thing that interests me here is John Malkovich, because he is awesome, but I have no interest in watching some human interest bulletin story, and frankly that’s what it looks like.

Looks promising although slightly predictable. I’m sure it will have some strong performances.

  • I didn’t see any black people in this trailer. Spike Lee’s gonna be pissed.

  • Man I fucking hope so! Spike Lee full of piss and vinegar is totally awesome. Like when he talked shit about Boston when the Giants won the Superbowl and all this recent Clint Eastwood-stuff, it’s more entertaining than some of his films!

  • Nice comment, Joel.

When I heard that Clint Eastwood told Spike Lee to “shut his face,” I was wondering what the story was there. In interviews and appearances, I’ve always seen Clint as such an amiable and relaxed guy. Maybe he was just preparing for his next Dirty Harry movie? :-) Wouldn’t it be strange if the villain was African-American?

Everyone should know by now that Spike Lee didn’t in fact say those things about Flags of our Fathers.

  • Really, Swarez? I’ve gotta stop believing in everything I read on Film Junk.

  • Why did he comment recently saying that his wife told him that he hurt his oscar chances with “all the clint eastwood” stuff then? He also mentioned that the fact that he lives in New York, makes films in New York and likes the New York Knicks are holding him back in oscar races, because most of the people voting live in LA. AND, he took another jab at Driving Miss Daisy (a movie he previously talked about, saying that the fact that it won the oscar hurt him even more than not having Do The Right Thing nominated (they came out the same year apparently)), saying “Nobody’s watching motherfucking Driving miss Daisy now! Do the right thing is being taught in schools everywhere!”

Did I mention how much I love Spike Lee in the media? He should do a documentary about the racism he lives with every day.

  • Apparently they even had Steven Spielberg mediate between Spike Lee and Clint Eastwood! Such a good guy that Steven Spielberg, he understands both conservative hollywood types and racist victims!

  • The first 30 seconds looked mildly interesting, but then the psych ward plot entered the picture and it lost me. We’ve seen Angelina do that stuff before (Girl, Interrupted). And I agree with Jon Rocks, I can’t watch either Brad or Angelina’s movies anymore. Shame, I used to like them both.

Oh and the overused music didn’t help. I’ve heard that tune in at least a dozen trailers before. I think it’s originally from Requiem For A Dream.

Might be an interesting actual story a good one for Cold Case with Bill Curtis. But this trailer makes it look like the LAPD was in the business of stealing children (much like old people in that Soul Asylum video Run Away Train). I’m sure this will do the Oscar thing for sure I guess the only difference between most Oscar movies and Lifetime movies is a little more money for lighting and set design.

“Why did he comment recently saying that his wife told him that he hurt his oscar chances with “all the clint eastwood” stuff then?”

Because of the media frenzy that was around his alleged comments.

The actual context is that Lee was inspired to make his upcoming movie about black WWII soldiers because of veterans that complained to him about no black soldiers being shown in either of Eastwood’s Iwo Jima movies. In this press conference HE WAS ASKED why Eastwood didn’t include black soldiers in his movie, and said that he could not speak for Eastwood (along with the other comments). He was answering a question but the media turned it in to a feud and that’s the version that got to Eastwood so he answered the way he did cause he didn’t know better.

I’m not a regular movie goer. Most times I can wait and pick up the video once it’s released. But I cannot wait to see this movie! This movie is very captivating, with its powerful story and Angelina’s awesome acting!!
