Fox Considering Deadpool Spin-off and Daredevil Reboot

Success! A few weeks back on the Film Junk Podcast we were talking about Mark Steven Johnson’s Daredevil movie, and at the time it seemed obvious that this should be the next franchise to be considered for a nice shiny reboot. If both Hulk and The Punisher were seen as failures in the eyes of fans, I think we can agree that Daredevil is at least on par with these flicks, if not worse. Well now this week we have confirmation that Fox is thinking about bringing the character back to the screen.
Variety reports that Fox has had a rough summer (their most successful movie was What Happens in Vegas), and that they are in need of some potential blockbusters to get things back on track. This has caused them to look back over their existing properties and figure out which ones might fit the bill. A new Daredevil movie is a strong possibility, as is a Deadpool spin-off from the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine flick (ie. a spin-off of a spin-off).
While I seriously doubt that anyone would be interested in a standalone Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds, Daredevil probably deserves another shot. At the moment, it is unclear if they are thinking outright reboot or if Ben Affleck might return for the role. However, there have been rumblings that Jason Statham is interested in the gig, and Frank Miller wants to direct. At the very least, it would be nice to get a different director in there, although I think Miller’s future as a director is going to depend on the success of The Spirit this Christmas. What do you think about a Daredevil reboot? Are Miller and Statham the right team to do it?
