Michael Moore’s Slacker Uprising Trailer

Last year at the Toronto International Film Festival, Michael Moore screened a new documentary called Captain Mike Across America, which captured his campaign across the country during the 2004 election as he tried to convince young people to vote. The tour itself was called the Slacker Uprising Tour, and now it appears that this will become the name of the movie as well when it is finally released later this month. The cool thing is, Moore is offering the 96-minute movie entirely for free online starting September 23rd, before releasing it on DVD three weeks later.

I vaguely remember the movie getting rather mediocre reviews at the festival, so perhaps part of the reason for making it free is because no one would want to pay money for it. However, the other part of Moore’s plan is that he hopes that once again this will inspire young voters to come out for the upcoming U.S. presidential election. The film includes appearances from such celebrities as Roseanne Barr and Viggo Mortensen, and performances from Eddie Vedder, Tom Morello, and Steve Earle. To sign up for the free download, head over to SlackerUprising.com. Check out the trailer below… do you think it will make a difference?

On a related note, Moore also has a new book out called Mike’s Election Guide.

  • Is dat sum free movie? I’m on it.

I’ve got Mike’s Election Guide. Read a bit of it (it has really big font and a Q&A type format [its an easy read]). Wasn’t expecting the picture of chicks making out in it. Uh…yeah.

  • The guy is a moron. Regardless of politics, his movies have continued to decline in relevance and quality and he has gone from being a thorn in the side of Republicans to being a pain in the neck for Dems who see him as an annoyance.

I am willing to bet that the reason we haven’t seen much of him yet, is that the Obama campaign as asked him to keep his mouth shut so as not to ruin the Democrat brand.

As usuall we europeans have to wait in front of closed doors when it comes to free downloads. :( Well, no problem – i think this movie will be available three hours later around the net.

  • What what what? Michael Moore has a new movie? I haven’t even watched Sicko yet. I must be one of them “slackers” he’s talking about.

And even though I’m a big liberal pinko commie, I have to agree with Mr. David Lay. This movie looks intolerable. A documentary about how Michael Moore got the slacker vote out in 2004? But he obviously didn’t really get it out? And Tom Morello is in it? Stupid.

  • Mike

That song in the trailer was awful.

  • Alex R. Cronk-Young

That trailer looked really cool and seemed like one of those motivational we can make a change type feel good movies, but then of course we didn’t make a change. It still looks like an entertaining movie. I’ll definetly watch it, but as far as these types of docs go I’m more looking forward to Religulous.

  • I tried watching Sicko and turned it off 15 minutes in. I’ve had enough Micheal Moore for my lifetime I think, his films are SO childish, it stops being charming, and gets annoying.

It’s cool that he’s now at the M. Night Shyamalan/John Carpenter level of self-promotion, that he’d put his own name above the title. Though I guess it could just be because this is going straight-to-youtube and will have no commercial content, other than trying to sell it with his name.

  • Goon

another Moore thread, same dumb comments.

  • Whether they vote for Obama or McCain, it makes no difference. They both have the same script writers and the build up world war III will continue on.

  • Goon

“Whether they vote for Obama or McCain, it makes no difference.”

The SCOTUS appointments due in the next 4 years make you wrong alone. I dont know if you’re pro-life or pro-choice, but a vote for McCain/Palin is a vote for overturning Roe vs. Wade.

    It’s that close.

  • Pro-Life/Pro-Choice is never going to be settled as it varies amongst the individuals involved. I support Pro-Life about 90% of the time, the other 10% is if it involves a health crisis or a rape.

  • Agreed Baychuck.

And this movie looks like shit.

  • Goon

“Pro-Life/Pro-Choice is never going to be settled as it varies amongst the individuals involved.”

what the fuck drugs are you on? You’ve got McCain, who has vowed to overturn Roe vs. Wade, and Palin, who is both a creationist and a Christian Dominionist. If they are elected, they will overturn it. period.

  • Goon, individuals ALWYAYS have choices.
