Paris Hilton Blocks Screenings of Paris, Not France Doc at TIFF

As far as I know, Paris Hilton will not be anywhere near the Toronto Film Festival this month, but that hasn’t stopped her from elbowing her way into the spotlight and causing all kinds of drama. Hilton has reportedly called on her lawyers to try and block screenings of Adria Petty’s documentary Paris, Not France, which was scheduled to play at the festival. The movie supposedly follows the heiress closely during a particularly tumultuous year, and features “revealing interviews” with her parents and family members, in addition to Paris herself.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Biz blog, she has succeeded in getting all but one of the screenings shut down (only the Tuesday September 9th, 6 pm screening remains uncancelled), and the movie will likely never be released anywhere else ever again. Damn, I wasn’t that interested before, but now I really want to see it! She obviously co-operated while the movie was being made, but I wonder what it is about the final cut that made her change her mind. Doesn’t she realize that an honest, heartfelt documentary could change people’s perception of her in a positive way? Just look at Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. Okay, maybe that’s not the best example, but it did at least make them seem human, and it was a damn good movie. Anyone out there currently planning on catching this at TIFF?

  • Wouldn’t she have signed release forms before the filming? Guess not. I’d love to see some portrayal of her as the despicable humanoid we all know she is. There will be torrents. Oh yes. Torrents indeed.

  • This is on my shortlist for TIFF! If I manage to get tickets to the lone screening tomorrow, I’ll be sure to send a full report.

Wait a minute, isn’t she a genius in marketing the brand Paris? And what better way to put her doc in the spotlight than supposedly blocking it?

  • I was wondering if this was the case when I got the email saying 2 of the 3 screenings were cancelled. It’s not on my list but it sure will be interesting to hear what people say about it!

  • Alright. I’m bookmarking the comments. I’m expecting some sort of dish-out report from Ashley! :)

  • Unless this is the sequel to ‘One Night In Paris,’ I’m not interested.

  • Time is too short of a Paris Hilton Doc, but I must admit the description and whatnot of the film feels less exploitative then the usual media train-wreck-spotting.

  • Bob the Slob

yeah…paris needs to fall into an abyss of darkness and never return.

  • Darren

    she’s an idiot

  • swarez

    Good one Darren.

I’m sure this film will find its way on the net soon enough, I’m sure there are plenty of festival screeners around.

I have two tickets to see this and now I am more excited than ever!

  • I had no interest in Metallica before I saw Some Kind of Monster and now I’m a big fan.

I would like to see this. Doesn’t her dad hate her? I think he wrote her out of his will or something like that. It would be awesome if he’s interviewed in the film and talking about how much he hates her.

This post is pretty *yawn* lamesauce people. Like Ryan M pointed out, wouldn’t she have signed release forms? I mean that’s just one of the many issues, did Adria Petty sign over some right of final cut to Hilton and/or her lawyers? Like where’s the real story, what court orders have been made in relation to this OR are there even any. Did her lawyers simply write some threatening letters? I mean there’s a whole hell of a lot that isn’t being disclosed here.

no im pretty sure she was near it
    i know her bodyguard

i just returned from the only screening of the documentary http://tiff08.ca/filmsandschedules/films/parisnotfrance the film reaffirms the notion that Paris has used her name, style and peoples’ like (and dislike) of who she is to earn a living. the fact that many people have such polarised opinions of Paris Hilton, as evidenced on this page, is what actually keeps her fame aloft.

Did you like the film aeiou? How did the audience respond? I heard that tickets did sell out. It is true- these posts are evidence that people love to hate Paris. Adria Petty is am amazing film-maker. Has anyone seen her stunning music video’s? I’m sure she made Paris look and seem amazing. I hope we’ll get to see the real side of this woman. It’s great that the folks in Paris’ camp didn’t f-up the opportunity for this young director to have her first doc screened at TIFF (even if they did chop it down to only one screening, and not much press). I predict ‘Paris, Not France’ will be a huge success.

Well its 2009… Ive been curious about this since I first heard about it. Alas… It still cant be found.

  • I have been watching Paris Hilton’s BFF. Where do they get hold of these folks? They’re from another planet!
