Paris Hilton Blocks Screenings of Paris, Not France Doc at TIFF

As far as I know, Paris Hilton will not be anywhere near the Toronto Film Festival this month, but that hasn’t stopped her from elbowing her way into the spotlight and causing all kinds of drama. Hilton has reportedly called on her lawyers to try and block screenings of Adria Petty’s documentary Paris, Not France, which was scheduled to play at the festival. The movie supposedly follows the heiress closely during a particularly tumultuous year, and features “revealing interviews” with her parents and family members, in addition to Paris herself.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Biz blog, she has succeeded in getting all but one of the screenings shut down (only the Tuesday September 9th, 6 pm screening remains uncancelled), and the movie will likely never be released anywhere else ever again. Damn, I wasn’t that interested before, but now I really want to see it! She obviously co-operated while the movie was being made, but I wonder what it is about the final cut that made her change her mind. Doesn’t she realize that an honest, heartfelt documentary could change people’s perception of her in a positive way? Just look at Metallica: Some Kind of Monster. Okay, maybe that’s not the best example, but it did at least make them seem human, and it was a damn good movie. Anyone out there currently planning on catching this at TIFF?
