Ben Affleck and Jason Bateman to Star in Mike Judge’s Extract

Good news Mike Judge fans… apparently the horrible experience he had making Idiocracy wasn’t enough to keep him away from the movie industry altogether. He just decided to switch studios instead. The Beavis and Butthead creator is about to start shooting Extract, a comedy that he has set up over at Miramax starring Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig and Mila Kunis.

It seems like this time Judge is training his satirical laser on opportunistic lawyers, with Affleck playing an attorney who is trying to help a flower extract factory owner (Bateman) plagued with disgruntled employees and a cheating wife. I know a lot of people are wishing Affleck would just stay behind the camera after directing the fantastic Gone Baby Gone, but he has always been fairly good at comedy and I am definitely looking forward to this. Let’s just hope Miramax has a little more confidence in Mike Judge’s filmmaking abilities than Fox did.

  • Personally I loved Idiocracy. I think it’s one of the most quotable movies I’ve watched in a long time. I know Mike Judge got reamed by the studios releasing it, but I think it’s gained a decent cult following. So despite the casting of Benjamin Affleck, I am looking forward to Extract and hope it becomes the huge hit Mike Judge deserves after getting screwed so many times. At the least we can be assured it will do to lawyers what Idiocracy did to Fuddrucker’s.

  • Affleck played a pretty good lawyer-y type in CHANGING LANES. I’ve got faith in those casting decisions.

  • That’s true, I just have never been a fan of Affleck’s comedic roles. He comes off too smug and into himself, but maybe that’s just what he needs to play a comedic lawyer role.

  • I’m glad to see Mike Judge directing something again (I had no idea he did Idiocracy…that shit wasn’t great). I dunno, I think Affleck has been in a lot of roles he didn’t belong in (thus most of his movies blow) but I do like him in the Kevin Smith movies.
