Bottle Rocket Criterion Collection DVD and Blu-ray Release Date and Specs

We’ve heard about this one being in the works for a while now, but the folks over at Criterion have finally unveiled the details for the new release of Wes Anderson’s Bottle Rocket, which will come to DVD and Blu-ray this November. This is his first, and probably least pretentious film, not to mention the launching point for both Owen and Luke Wilson’s careers. The only DVD version that has been available to date was a barebones release, so fans will be excited to sink their teeth into the following smorgasborg of extras:

  • Audio commentary by director/co-writer Anderson and co-writer/actor Owen Wilson
  • The Making of Bottle Rocket: an original documentary by filmmaker Barry Braverman
  • The original thirteen-minute black-and-white Bottle Rocket short film from 1992
  • 11 deleted scenes
  • Anamorphic screen test, storyboards, location photos, and behind-the-scenes photographs by Laura Wilson
  • Murita Cycles, a 1978 short film by Braverman
  • The Shafrazi Lectures, no. 1: Bottle Rocket
  • Booklet featuring an essay by executive producer James L. Brooks, an appreciation by Martin Scorsese
  • Original artwork by Ian Dingman

Hmm, does that mean the cover art is not done by Wes Anderson’s brother this time? Either way it looks pretty sweet. And of course, the best part is that this release will be available on both DVD and Blu-ray, supposedly for the same suggested retail price of $39.95. Nice! Look for this bad boy to hit stores on November 25th.

  • This is going to be good.

    Finally!!!!!

  • I’m really interested in seeing the short film as I guess they used that to get Bottle Rocket made. Plus I love a Wes Anderson commentary as he often says that he did something for no other reason than that’s the way he imagined it and I’m glad he can be that honest (because it is obvious at times).

Btw, I can recognize that the box art was drawn by the Wes Anderson’s brother. Wait, you’re kidding aren’t you.
