The Riddler to Appear in Green Arrow: Escape from Super Max Instead of the Next Batman Movie

There’s been plenty of talk lately about who could possibly follow up The Joker as a compelling villain for Christopher Nolan’s inevitable sequel to The Dark Knight. Although Catwoman has some supporters, it seems like The Riddler is by far the biggest fan favourite, and the character that would fit best into the somewhat realistic world that they have created thus far.

And although no one really knows what Nolan might have up his sleeve for Batman 3, it seems that The Riddler will indeed be coming to the big screen one way or another. Screenwriter Justin Marks recently revealed to MTV that he is one of the characters involved in David Goyer’s upcoming super villain prison break movie, Green Arrow: Escape from Super Max. In addition to The Riddler, Lex Luthor also makes an appearance, along with Green Lantern foe Icicle and an indirect cameo from The Joker.

It’s all a part of the new approach that DC and Warner Brothers are taking with their comic book movies (modeled after Marvel, of course) where all the characters exist in the same universe and cross over into each other’s films. With that said, I’m not sure if that makes it more or less likely that The Riddler would end up in a sequel to The Dark Knight. All I know is that Brian Austin Green recently made a public declaration that he wants the role, and that is a very scary thought indeed!

I love how this is a such a new and brilliant idea for the studios while it’s been this way for decades in the comics.

Anybody else think this title has no chance of being the final title?

  • There is a small movement to get Michael Pitt to play the Riddler in the same manner as Killer#1 in Funny Games. That’d rock.

  • The Brian Austin Green angle is funny, but who really cares about a story like this?

  • I am really hoping that the riddler will be in the next Nolan Batman film… I am still holding onto that hope.

  • David S. Goyer is a fun writer but he is a terrrrrible director. I was so pissed when I walked out of Blade: Trinity and I saw if for free. There are very few times I’ve been pissed off by a movie and it makes Spider-man 3 seem like a good 3rd installment in comparison! Ytf do they still let him direct!

As for the next Batman: They need to slap some age makeup on Bale and do Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. It’s easily the best superhero story of all time and this is from a man with thousands of dollars worth of comics. The only problem with that is that they would have to cut the Joker out but that only makes adapting it easier. This is the only way I can imagine Nolan could beat The Dark Knight.

  • Crispin Glover as the Riddler! Come on, join me in this, people!

  • Ohhh… Micheal Pitt as the Riddler, I’m working on my letter to the studio already

No offense to fanboys, but WHY THE HELL IS A GREEN ARROW MOVIE BEING MADE? There, I said it. That sounds about as dumb as when the Daredevil movie was made, and Ben Affleck was the star of it. And why the hell are they sticking the Riddler in that movie, instead of the new Batman movie? WTF?

  • Riddler would definitely be out place if they did this. He is Batman’s enemy not Green Arrow’s. If they do this they should at least have Riddler mention Batman.

okay graphicartist2k5 dude…the reason why he isn’t sticking with the batman movies is…I dont need to answer that all you have to do is watch batman forever and you’ll get your answer…second Christopher Nolan wants to use Villians that were never shown in movies before…for example Black Mask, deadshot, Harley Quinn, Killer croc? you should give these guys a chance…like they’d make better villians then the Riddler….and Riddler already had a chance and Jim Carey fucked up pretty bad.
