Shia LaBeouf Might Lose a Finger, Michael Bay Might Write it Into Transformers 2?

It seems that Shia LaBeouf’s car accident on July 27th may have done more permanent damage than was originally reported. There is a story going around right now that says that LaBeouf may be in danger of losing his pinky finger, after doctors told him it might be necessary to amputate. Granted, this particular report is coming from Star Magazine, which isn’t the most reliable source. However, the interesting thing is that Michael Bay confirmed in an interview that LaBeouf’s hand was pretty badly mangled, and that they might actually have to try to write it into the movie somehow:

“I spoke to him yesterday in the hospital… His two fingers are pretty mashed, but we’re figuring out a way to shoot around it, kind of write it in the story.”

Wow, maybe he can lose his pinky in a duel with Megatron or something. That would be pretty bad ass. Or maybe they can make him part cyborg. Seriously though, if the story is true, I suppose it’s nothing to joke about. Bay is convinced that LaBeouf was not actually drunk at the time of the crash, and that it wasn’t his fault. Either way, the guy is still pretty likeable in spite of his shortcomings.

    Michael Bay being likable? HA
    Biggest shortcomings (oxymoron?):
    Pearl Harbor and Transformers

  • Haha no I meant Shia.

Yea, I know. I was kidding.

  • Touche.

  • I think this whole speculation that he might lose a finger would be confirmed by now. How the hell are doctors gonna let someone walk around with an irreparable finger? (I’ve seen picks of him since and he appears to have all fingers in that cast.)

Imagine the destruction his career would experience without a pinky! He’d almost be as far in the whole as Lohan from one bad decision and/or mishap.

Sorry to divert this post into Star Trek territory, but this whole losing a finger business has me thinking about James Doohan who played Scotty in Star Trek. Do all of you know that he was missing a finger? He lost it as a soldier (pilot?) in a war.

The interesting thing is that the makers of Star Trek tried to hide the fact that Scotty was missing a finger. ( Remember, the Original Series was done before CGI existed. :-) ) They did a good job, because I never knew when I was watching it back then. For the close-ups of Scotty’s hands when he was operating the transporter controls, they used someone else’s hands!

I don’t know if Ryan M was being sarcastic, but I would be surprised if Shia lost any jobs due to a missing finger (unless, of course, he had any hand modeling contracts).

(Actually, I should mention that I realize that for close-ups of body parts doing things, a second unit more often than not will shoot the scenes without the original actors and use body doubles instead.)

  • This was a story that was developed by Star Magazine– it was bullshit from the get-go. He’s not going to lose a finger, and he’s going to get out of this whole thing Scot-free. Must be nice to be a celebrity.

They’ll just CG it in like everything else.

Is it just be or does the guy in the background of the picture above look just like Jerry Bruckheimer if he were unemployed and greasy.
