Buffy The Vampire Slayer Animated Series Promo Leaks Online

Hey Whedon fans… did you know that there was a Buffy animated series in development back in 2001, but none of the networks wanted to pick it up? Who am I kidding… of course you do. Several writers from the live action show were writing scripts for it, and most of the original cast members were doing their respective character’s voices, with the exception of Sarah Michelle Gellar. (Buffy was voiced by Giselle Loren, who also played Buffy in the Xbox games.)

There is some test footage from an episode that has found its way online this week for anyone who is interested in what might have been. It seems to have sparked some new interest in the series, although back in 2005 Joss Whedon confirmed that the show was officially dead. Considering how popular the comic book continuation has been, I bet a lot of networks are now regretting not picking up the series. With enough support from Whedon’s rabid fans, I wouldn’t be surprised if it eventually found a home (although with all the other stuff on Whedon’s plate, who knows if he would even have time). Personally I’d rather see a full-blown Dr. Horrible live action series instead, but I was never a huge Buffy fan to begin with. Check out the promo clip below and see what you think.

  • I dunno, I just never got Buffy.

  • Love Buffy. Are we sure that’s not Sarah Michelle Gellar? Sounds JUST like her.

How did this not get picked up?

  • Buffy was ok but this has the same shit character design as all those DC direct to video movies.

  • Majin Powers

I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer and would love for something to finally happen with this after it was shunned by the networks. It would even be better if they animated the season 8 comic books and made them into a series.

As for how or why this was never picked up is a mystery to us all. The networks seems to crap on Joss all the time…. Firefly, Angel, Ripper, Wonder Woman!!!!

Lets All hope and pray that Dollhouse don’t get craped on in the same way. I for one cant wait for it to start airing and since they released that Amy Acker is going to be on the show too it just keeps getting better and better.

This is a great idea. Can’t wait for it. Bring it back.
