American Gladiator to Play Lead Role in New Conan Movie?

There’s been a lot of talk lately about another Conan movie, continuing the movie franchise based on Robert E. Howard’s books. There was speculation at one point that they might wait for Arnold Schwarzenegger to reprise his role once his stint as the Governor of California is up, but the problem is that he won’t be available until 2011. Since a Red Sonja movie has already been greenlit with Robert Rodriguez at the helm, it would make sense that they’d want to start moving forward with the next Conan movie as soon as possible.
This week we have a tip about someone who might be close to landing the lead role in the new Conan flick, and no, it’s not Gerard Butler. According to /Film, Mike O’Hearn (aka Titan on American Gladiators) has been auditioning for the part, and he thinks he is pretty close to sealing the deal. He says he has also been trying out for the part of Captain America. Now, keep in mind, this scoop came from O’Hearn himself during an appearance on a radio show, so it could just be a case of him trying to sound like a big shot. On the other hand, O’Hearn previously starred in a direct-to-video movie called Barbarian, which basically makes him a shoo-in, right? Personally I don’t see him as Captain America at all, but maybe… just maybe… he could be right for Conan. Let’s face it, great acting chops are not exactly a requirement. What do you think? Check out O’Hearn’s demo reel, embedded below.
