Alicia Keys to Star as Agent 355 in Y The Last Man?

Over the past little while we’ve been hearing bits and pieces about the upcoming big screen adaptation of Y The Last Man. It’s still in the scriptwriting stage but it looks like D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye) will be directing it, and Shia LaBeouf has long been rumoured to star. Now this week we have a rumour about another possible casting choice for the role of Agent 355.

UGO talked to producer JC Spink, who revealed that singer Alicia Keys is currently his top choice to play the government agent assigned to protect Yorick. He also threw out Zoe Saldana (Uhuru in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek) as another possibility. Keys has only had a few acting gigs thus far, including roles in The Nanny Diaries and Smokin’ Aces. Personally I don’t really see her playing such a bad ass character, but who knows… maybe she has it in her. Who would you like to see as Agent 355? What about Dr. Mann? Ampersand?

You know, all this talk about Y The Last Man reminded me that I still have to read the final 5 issues. I had been kind of putting it off because I just didn’t want the series to end. I think I will finish it this weekend.

I thought when somebody holds and points a gun, their index finger is supposed to be on the trigger. Just sayin’.

  • My feelings on the end of the series: Bitter sweet.

My feelings on a Y movie: Hell yes.

My feelings on Shia and DJ: Again, hell yes.

My feelings on Alicia Keys: …meh.

  • I’m not too sure about shia.. he seems a bit too, umm, cool? I’ve always seen Yorick more of a Luke Wilson or Martin Freeman type. But I’m sure they’ll be prove me wrong…

And they’ll probably make Ampersand CGI, and with Shia there, that just reminds me of Indiana Jones and let’s hope it doesn’t go down THAT road.

When I read the comic, I immediately envisioned it as an awesome film. I’m a little p.o.’ed that Shia is a shoe in for Yorick. I sorta envisioned Maggie Q as Dr. Mann, Kerry Washington as Agent 355, and Chris Evans as Yorick. Don’t forget that who ever plays Yorick has to be able to play the different ages and emotional stages he goes through. He’ll start from early twenties to mid-late twenties, then 30-40’s, and eventually very, very old age (unless they choose to get an older actor to do this by the third movie in the presumed trilogy).

I don’t think Shia has that kind of range. Sorry.

Oh, and Ivan, I heard Ampersand is going to be played by a real monkey. Not CGI.
