Flash of Genius Trailer Starring Greg Kinnear

I’ve always been intrigued by the stories of inventors and how they came up with the ideas for the inventions that went on to change the world (and make them very rich). You never know when inspiration might strike, and some of the world’s most important discoveries were made entirely by accident. Flash of Genius is a movie based on just such a story, starring Greg Kinnear as Robert Kearns, the guy who invented the intermittent windshield wiper. Now does that sound like a compelling subject for a major motion picture or what?

The thing about Kearns’ story that made it a bit more significant is that Ford and Chrysler stole his idea, and he sued them for patent infringement. It’s a classic tale of the little guy versus the big corporations (as emphasized by the movie’s brilliant poster), and putting everything on the line just to be recognized for his accomplishment. It’s precisely the kind of small character drama that Greg Kinnear lives for, and he is joined by Lauren Graham, Alan Alda and Dermot Mulroney, among others. Producer Marc Abraham is making his directorial debut, and while it certainly doesn’t look like a movie that will shatter any box office records, I’ll definitely check it out when I get the chance. Flash of Genius hits theatres on October 17th.

  • Saying no to a $30 million dollar settlement?! Holy crap that was like $200 million back then.

Oh yeah, please don’t reveal how the true story ends on a podcast. Back in the Into the Wild review you did that (and the trailers didn’t) and that sucked.

  • Sorry about that Ryan. I think it was me that did the spoiling that time. I had heard the true story before seeing the movie and I incorrectly assumed everyone else knew as well.

Hey Ryan, didn’t you just reveal to everybody how this story turns out in the courtroom? Did you do this on purpose to show Sean that it’s not cool to do that? Or maybe there is more to the Robert Kearns story that hasn’t been revealed yet? Then again, I’m not even sure if I wanted to see this movie in the first place. Regardless, I don’t care for spoilers.

Why thank you! My brother is great at his craft and I do hope everyone enjoys the movie! the $30M line is in the trailor…

  • I feel like I’ve seen this trailer a hundred times before. Sort of emotional, somewhat interesting plot with a good actor driving the story about one man against the machine which seems rather forgettable until you catch it on cable one day and really enjoy it, then promptly forget about again. At least that’s what it looks like to me.

  • Nothing says searing emotional roller coaster like Greg Kinnear and windshield wipers.
