The Star Trek TMNT Crossover You Didn’t Know About

Well I’m not sure if these are a part of Reed Farrington’s collection or not, but clearly they are must-own material! I stumbled across pictures of these Star Trek-themed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures on the web the other day, and somehow assumed that they were just a fan-made mod or something. It turns out that Playmates actually released these back in 1994 as sort of a promotional crossover thing. I love the fact that they even gave Donatello spock ears. Hilarious.

  • This is the best idea in the history of the world.

  • In true 90’s action figure fashion they made every kind of turtle imaginable. Every profession in the known world was replicated by variations of the four; so much so that if you were a kid that didn’t get one of the originals you were forced into having Detective Donatello and Michael Jordan Michelangelo team up to fight Shredder.

  • Reed Farrington

Yeah, I bought them across the border when they came out. I never saw them up here in Canada.

BTW, I’m not a TMNT fan.

  • Got any doubles you want to sell?? I always assume you have more than one of everything.

  • You’ve got to be kidding. I can not believe you actually were aware of this and bought them when they came out.

  • Reed Farrington

Haven’t you been reading Treknobabble, Henrik? :-)

Just kidding, Henrik. I know you have.

Jay, I think I do have doubles. Or at least doubles of some of them. If you seriously want them, I’ll have to do a bin search. I’ll talk to you in person. (But after this, you have to stop making fun of my habit of getting doubles. Now I’ll have to start getting triples of everything. I need a Star Trek intervention. (I wonder how many people would pay to come to that especially if I coerce Shatner to come! (Shatner will do anything for money.)))

  • If you hook me up with those for a good price, I will consider holding off on comments regarding your need to buy doubles. Instead, I will make fun of your need to place brackets within brackets within brackets.

  • Jay is a closet (I guess he outed himself now) wannabe Reed Farrington.

Just out of curiosity – Jay, Sean, Greg and Goon, what kind of toys are you collecting? Maybe you should do a special column starring all of you and seeing wether or not your combined efforts can measure up against Reeds.

  • Man, just looking at that picture cracks me up to no end. Is that a red hairpiece on Leonardo?? That doesn’t even make any sense! Turtles with hair, and it’s not even the appropriate hair…

  • Greg

There’s no way any combo of toys can match up against Reed’s. It’s impressive and scary at the same time.

  • It would be cool to have more toys posts. If you haven’t seen them: Hot Toys has Dark Knight 1:6 (12″) scale figures including a massive Batpod and Batmobile with working lights that are incredible!

  • Reed Farrington

I didn’t realize The Dark Knight vehicles had working lights. I love lights! And things that move!

Jay would probably be interested to know that Hot Wheels has just released the Batmobile and Batcycle from the 60s TV series in 3″ versions. (I’m estimating 3″.) That Batmobile never goes out of style. I don’t think it’s detailed very well though. I remember older versions that shot missiles out of those 3 tubes in front of the trunk. And a serrated blade could be sprung from the front. And spring activated ejector seats, too.

(BTW, I have bad news for Jay about the doubles. I was ready to bag them for him when I realized that the accessories were colored differently for the doubles. I don’t think I can part with my doubles now.)

(Just a side note to obsessive collecting: I’m now collecting different reprint editions of the books.)

  • Automatic return to making fun of your collecting of doubles.

  • Wait…are you actually serious?

  • Reed Farrington

Um… yeah, I’m serious. Did I need to answer that?

I’d like to see an article about “freebies” that come with DVD Collector Edition packages. Although Jay makes fun of this, I think the coolest freebie I have is one that came with a House of Flying Daggers wooden box set from Hong Kong (I think). It actually had a metal flying dagger! Sharp enough to kill someone with! (I guess customs didn’t bother to check. :-))

  • I don’t know why I was surprised.

Luckily, I found the entire set on ebay for 32.99.

  • Reed Farrington

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the reason why I brought up the DVD Collector Edition freebies was that I thought Ryan M’s idea of more toy posts (about film related toys, I would hope) was a good idea. I extrapolated without referencing the source of my freebie comment.

  • Reed Farrington

$32.99! That’s a steal! Is that the opening bid, or is that a buying price? Maybe we should take this conversation offline.

  • That was the ‘Buy Me Now’ price.

  • I love that HoFD set. Contemplated buying that one a few times.

In terms of great DVD sets, I also really, really love the Korean Pan’s Labyrinth set which comes with a 18 carat gold key. Also the Korean “King and the Clown” which has one of the most classy packaging of a DVD that I own. I usually show it off to folks who can’t believe any company takes that kind of care when publishing a set on a film. (And the difference between those crazy Japanese sets is that the Korean ones are usually quite affordable, often less than $30…compared to Japanese sets which routinely exceed $150)

  • Here is a US$300 wacky-crazy Matrix Trilogy Japanese set. oi!

  • Reed Farrington

Kurt, thx for that link to the twitchfilm thread about DVD box art and packaging. I noticed the photos for the “King and the Clown” Korean packaging. Very nice indeed. If anyone wants to see photos of the HoFD set with dagger, check out the thread. That Matrix set with the ship (it’s too late for me to look up the spelling of the Nebbuquenedzar) is wackier than the NA set with the head bust of Neo.

  • Reed Farrington

Holy crap! Is the “Most Popular Posts” on the right in any particular order? If so, I can’t believe this is at the top. I spend hours on Treknobabble and this stupid post about ST/TMNT (notice that Star Trek gets top billing) toys makes it to the top.

  • You have to admit the toys are pretty cool though.

Maybe you should do a TMNT column.

  • Satnam

Ive got Star Trek Donatello and Leonardo. Not in their original package though…got them when I bought a bulk collection on a trip to Tokyo.

  • Chris Marlton

    my head just exploded.

  • I’ve got the complete set still in the boxes =) It’s great! The best thing I have lol.

  • Casey, don’t let your significant other or your kids find out that they’re the best thing you have; otherwise, you’ll either end up losing them in the divorce settlement or your kids will remove them from their packaging. :-)

  • Johnson

    Michaelangelo dies in this episode.
